It is always a pleasure to come up and close with the culture, lifestyle and tradition of a country. Arabian stories have the most glittery images in our minds. Has it always been so glittery? That the advent of oil changed the lifestyle of the rulers of this country (UAE) is well known to all of us. But how rich were their lives before that? A visit to the Al Ain palace museum can tell you how! Located close to the Al Ain oasis, it was once where the king and his family lived. How well-maintained is the place (even the washrooms) with all the greenery around is amazing.
Inside the museum, the palace and private residence provide insights into the lives and culture of both the ruling family and the community until the country’s transformation after the discovery of petroleum. The Bedouin-style architecture (Bedouins are the nomadic Arab people from the region) dates back to 1937, with the structure converted into a museum in 1998 as a key cultural and tourist attraction. The museum opened its doors to visitors in 2001 and continues to celebrate the UAE’s rich history, preserving its links to the present and the future.
An interesting wander around the old Palace gives an insight into how the Sheikhs family lived and hosted guests. There are some artifacts on show and the palace has a variety of rooms on display showing the way the royal rooms use to be.Excellent family portraits of the family going back over the generations.Free to park and enter, would have been good to see more personal items associated with this incredible family.

A Good Museum with the heritage monuments of Abu Dhabi or UAE rulings families and their ancestors. All history as well as photos have been displayed on the walls of the museum.

This place best describes the life style of Arabs and how this started.
The Al Ain Palace Museum is the former residence of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan and his family, who went on to become the first ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The interior of some of the palace compound has been finely restored to reflect what the palace would have looked like when the Sheikh called it home.Unfortunately, information throughout the rooms is sparse for those who dont speak Arabic. Nevertheless, the interior decoration really does give you a good idea of the style of life that was led here, and it provides an opportunity to view Emirati traditional architecture.Address: Sultan bin Zayed I Street, Al Ain
Located next to the L Ain Oasis, this museum is the Home of the HH Shaikh Zayed and family. It gives a peek into the UAE historical homes.Nicely maintained, but need more signage and little History of each building there. Its a place one must visit to know the history.Typically you need 1 hour to visit the place.
Very Nice! A little more info on how life in the palace might have been. Living quarters were also under contruction.
It helps to have a guide but if u like to go at your own pace there is an informational office. The vibe is peaceful and surreal. Simple yet elegant.
Apparently this was the home to the last ruler of emirates. Free entry, must try there local brewed coffee at the entrance. There is no tour guide here so you can walk around as you please and learn about the culture of emiraties and how they lived there day to day life.A lot of history at this place, can easily spend 2-3 hrs exploring the castle, wonderful spots for some nice clicks. Cant miss to visit this if in the area !!!
The place has FREE admission and a normal activity..it takes about 1hr ! It was okayish kinda not great
Historical place
Calm and quiet. GET CLOSER TO NATURE.
Its an old palace used by the ruling Al Nahyan family and its a good way to see how they live many years ago. It also speaks about Arabic culture and way of life. You can find their family tree also in one of the areas (however there is no English translation). There are many sitting areas that you can just relax and appreciate the view and scenery for awhile. Public toilet is very clean. There is a tent / big majlis outside and can also take a seat and while away time. A vending machine for some chips and refreshments are available. The rooms are beautifully adorned. Well-maintained and its free entrance. Staff is friendly with a welcoming smile and will offer you some dates and Arabic coffee upon entrance. Ample parking space also and easy to locate. A nearby mall, Remal mall is just 8 minutes away to go to for a meal or anything you might need before heading to another location or go home.
We had a great time at this museum, which has free admission. The palace is very well done...the rooms are set up the way they used to be. There was a good bit of memorabilia that added to the authenticity. The grounds and buildings are kept us very nicely...the gardens and trees made it a very relaxing environment.
A great place to the humble beginnings of UAE. Maybe the present generation from all around the world can learn a few things from such places.

One of the must visit places if you are visiting Al Ain. You will come to know how former UAE rulers lived. Maintained well and free entry.
Because its amazing place in alain.
Great experience
Compared to modern UAE, the Al Ain Palace Museum takes you back to another time and shows you the rather different way that the ruling family lived their lives in the past.
Nice place, very well mantained. Free entrance. Can be visited in 1 hour
Beautiful place, there is a lack of information about how it worked and probably they would like to add more info regarding how it was and how they mantain it.
This place has a very special charm. It is peaceful, and reminds of the humble origins of this country and its founder.
Visited this palace museum along with friends and family in the month of August at 3:00 pm. It was pretty hot outside but inside the palace was cooler due to availability of air conditioners which keep each room cool. In spite of air conditioning, dust was found on all the rooms which may be due to lots of visitors do not follow the rule of avoiding shoes, slippers inside the rooms.Entrance of the palace has grand look. The gate itself is made of heavy wood with small door to peep inside when the main door is closed. Security guards are always present at the main gate to help you out on any matter within their purview. Cold drink vending machine is kept inside for people who need to rest and drink. Free cold water machine is also available inside in the left corner as you enter further inside the walk way in the open garden.Once we entered the main garden / courtyard in the front one Land Rover was kept. It was used by Sheikh Zayed for travelling in the desert. Nice place to be photographed in front of the car. One big tent is available in corner where Sheikh zayed used to receive guests. There are rooms for serving tea to guests, special rooms for guests and servants room. Various artifacts are on display which were either used by late kings or gifted to them by local community. The whole museum is a means to show to public the way Sheikh Zayed and their family lived once upon a time and a reminder of their past – emiraty way of living life and to reminder to future generation to remain connected to their roots.
Great place , happy to visit it again and again ..
