After a five-month summer break, Dubais only Friday Market is set to reopen tomorrow , offering visitors almost everything non-perishable under the sun.Humaid Saeed Al Marri, Director of the Markets and Abattoirs Department at Dubai Municipality, said the traditional open air souq became an instant hit when it was launched in November last year on an experimental basis.Al Marri added that the 445-stall market, operating from the car park at Dubai Municipality-managed Hamriya Shopping Centre on Abu-Hail-Hor Al Anz (East) Road, has created a major impact on the shopping scene, with even housewives allowed to put up stalls.He said local elderly women selling home made Arabic sweets, traditional medicine and handicrafts are a major attraction which draws up to 5,000 visitors.He noted that the municipality has also invited painters and other artists to display and sell their work.The market is open to all residents in the emirate of all nationalities to sell their products.Al Marri said the market is open from 3 pm to midnight, generating business in the range of Dh200,000 to Dh300,000.During Ramadan, it will be open on Thursdays and Fridays after Taraweeh prayer after Al Maghreb and will close at 3 am.The market has also increased the volume of business for traders at the Hamriya Shopping Centre, he said.Al Marri said municipal officials have allocated 25 stalls for ready made garments, six stalls for decorative items and plants, 42 for textile and related products, five stalls for carpets and 105 stalls for other products. Each stall measures two metres by one metre.He said anyone – people and companies – can register to sell products. People pay Dh10 and companies pay Dh50 to rent a stall. Stall holders have to make their counters as per specifications laid down by the municipality. No one other than the applicant will be allowed to run the stall.

This is good place to buy daily household items like bed sheets. also if you want to buy cheap electronics some small mobile accessories you can get it. the only thing you need to be good is into negotiation in bargaining and also if you are coming by cars parking will be an issue. This is only open on Fridays and only during non summer time.

A market selling a variety of goods. Apart from the usual grocery items in Union coop, there are abayas, ice creams, perfume shops play area and a choice of resturanta/takeaways. Ample parking. In the summer one can park underground which many customers are unaware of. Has spacious masjid next to it. Gym facilities are also available. On Fridays there is an open market with stalls. Usually cheap products although quality can be an issue at times.
