Memsaab is an good spot for those who love to enjoy Indian food with an amazing JLT view!Its a great spot to enjoy delicious Indian delicacies with a modern take on tradition, without breaking your bank too much and a wide variety of menu items to choose from!Their grilled platter was one of our favorites along with the unique yet delicious combination of the ice cream and gulaab jamun! The staff was very accommodating and friendly making the experience so worth it!

I was a bit spektical about trying out MEMSAAB seeing all the recent negative reviews on Zomato but then finally tried out the spot yesterday for lunch...Located at the J2 Tower, the place serves Mughlai & North Indian food..Place was spik & span & our server Mr. Rohit was very humble to attend to us..We ordered their Speciality dishes including Memsaab Chicken Tikka, Balti Chicken, Biryani & Lemonade to beat the heat..We were initially served with Papad Sticks, Jaal Jeera which was very refreshing. Memsaab is one of the best restaurants serving delicious North Indian Dishes. The one I visited is located in JLT, Cluster J and they have another branch in Karama as well.As I entered the restaurant, I was so inspired by the bright lighting and the interiors. Restaurant was looking beautiful with elegant interiors and decor. They have indoor and outdoor seating arrangements.Secondly, their staff Mr. Rohit and Mr. Kabir was so accomodating and courteous. They invited us with lot of love and smile.Mr. Rohit was with us throughout our dinner and guided us to choose the food from their menu. Dishes which he suggested was so yummy and I was delighted to have them.Here’s all the dishes we orderedChicken Manchow Soup had its flavour and the chicken pieces was soft and well cooked. It got along to have with the soup.Vegetable Sweet Corn Soup was too good with all fresh vegetables added, it’s was very delicious to start the dinner.Memsaab Chicken Tikka was flavourful and the masala was well balanced, pls don’t miss to try their signature dish.Paneer Tikka: Love paneer and this one inspired me very much by the way it was cooked, very tasty.Paneer Tikka Masala and Chicken Balti was very delectable which was the best accompaniment for the Tandoori bread basket they served. Dishes had very less oil and well balanced spice level too.Chicken Briyani was so yum and the picture says it all. Chicken was well cooked with masalas and the rice had its own flavor.Indian food can never end with gulab Jamun😊 They served warm, soft and tasty one which melted in the mouth.Sweet Lassi is something that shouldn’t be missed, it was so delicious and loved having every sip till I completed the dinner.

The location is so pretty, especially at night time overlooking the spacious lake, the outside seating area is ideal for this time of the year and inside the restaurant there’s a thoughtful interior and calm ambience. Tried out this famous place after hearing a lot from friends and others finally decided to try out this place. Memsaab is located JLT and has beautiful ambience and surrounding is amazing decorated with bright lights, gives bohemian vibe.Tried variety of chaats like papdi chat, pani puri, dahe chaat and my favorite was the dahe chaat which is made with thick creamy yogurt with sweet n sour tangy sauce on a stuffed poori!! Heavenly. 😋😋Also loved their starters tried chicken and fish starters which was delicious 🤤 and their dal makhani was the best one I have had so far... it was creamy and full of flavors. Cheese garlic naan is just amazing as it looks.Paneer biryani was at its best with good amount of spices and rice was amazingly aromatic.Desserts are the best part of all the meals that we consumed to end with. Loved their fresh jalebi😋I will surely try out this place again.

Today for Raksha Bhandan dinner we took kids to Memsaab Curry and Tandoor located in JLT, cluster J. Parking was easy to find and was easily available. Restaurant was of decent size with lots of seating space outside, we preferred seating inside as weather was hot. Indoor is very well decorated with lights and comfortable sofas. Staff welcomed us and gave us sanitizer to sanitize our hands. The menu was quite elaborate and we told staff that we will prefer veg food. Staff member suggested Paneer tikka or veg platter for starter and we ordered Platter. Ordered mango lassi and it was served in big glass. Veg platter was served with green mint chutney and a small salad and was very tasty. Hot well cooked paneer and kababs set the mood for main course.We ordered only Malai kofta for main course as veg platter was quite filling. Ordered paneer stuffed kulcha and one lacha parantha. Malai kofta had 4 koftas ( veg balls stuffed with paneer) while we generally get 2-3 kofta in other restaurants. Paneer kulcha was very soft and very well cooked. Malai kofta as told by staff was not spicy and my kid could eat it too. We could not try desserts as food was satisfying and was enough. I ordered Adrak ( ginger) tea which they made fresh and served hot. It definitely made my dinner better as I love tea .. kids were happy as they had a nice meal. We noticed they are in Entertainer too so you get BOGO which is a big saving.As they have huge seating place outdoor, I will wait for cooler weather to go there again and try their desserts and tea while enjoying the views outside. Must try food items from today’s meal were veg platter and paneer kulcha. Give it a try for Traditional Indian food.

We were in JLT for some work and for Lunch we found this amazing restaurant Memsaab curry and Tandur. What a cosy and comfortable interior. They have indoor sitting and outdoor sitting too with Beautiful Lake view. They serve a complimentary welcome drink to everyone which is minty lemon lemon drink along with beetroot and spinach crisps.. it was just out standing. I must say grand welcome it was. We ordered⭐️chicken tikka as starter- The best Chicken tikka i ever had in Dubai, very well roasted yet tender and juicy. Perfect spices . In one word- Excellent⭐️Mango Lassi- very Creamy and very delicious⭐️Butter Chicken- Very buttery and Rich creamy butter chicken was perfect to make my kid’s fallen in love for their food. It was finger licking actually.⭐️ Veg Biryani- very flavorful and very fragrant the way Biryani should be . Rice were well cooked yet every grain was separated. Heavily loaded with nuts and veggies. (It made me remember proper indian Biryani)⭐️Butter Naan - crunchy yet soft (not Chewy like elastic)⭐️ Gheeya carrot Kheer- this is the dish I highly Highly recommend which I believe you will find nowhere in any restaurant. Very very very delicious. You will repeat your order again once you taste this.The beat part was their super quick service. Food was served proper warm, staff was very Supportive and polite. They are taking very good care of Covid regulations. Keeping glass barricades in every table , checking temperatures, using gloves and masks . Nicely located restaurant in JLT with a grand selection of Indian specialities and classics. The fact, that the food offered is reasonably priced does not negatively affect the quality in any way. we experienced the service to be very courteous. Definitely worth a visit!

Tucked inside cluster J of Jlt, Memsaab is a pretty little Indian Restaurant. Ive always wanted to go there because I’ve heard so much about their biryani there. The interiors are petite, cute and very Indian. I was so glad the biryani lived upto it’s expectations and tasted absolutely glorious! 100% recommended!! The appetizers, jhinga masala and chicken kail mirch kebabs were SO flavoured and spicy! I loved it❤️I also ordered the chicken tikka masala and was very pleased with it, the colour stained my hands, but the masala was cooked to perfection!Ended my meal with some beautiful ras malai. It wasn’t oberly sweet and tasted just like an authentic ras malai should taste!❤️❤️

@memsaabfood in #JLT serves delicious North Indian cuisine that will keep you coming back for more..I had the Memsaab Chicken Tikka which was spicy marinated boneless chicken pieces grilled in a tandoor. The chicken was juicy and had loads of tolerable spicy flavour. For mains, I was recommended the Balti Chicken (a British classic ironically) which was yummy. It had a thick fragrant gravy which wasnt too spicy and had chunks of boneless chicken. I also tried the Black Daal which is a barometer to tell how good a North Indian restaurant really is. This Black Daal (or Maa Ki Daal for those in the know) was spot on. I wasnt too heavy or laden with cream and butter. The main meal had to end on a high note with their mutton biryani which was quite good. It was closer to a Bombay Biryani which always works well for me. There was plenty of mutton pieces and the long-grain rice was covered in masala. Highly recommended. I capped off the night with warm Gulab Jamun and Vanilla ice-cream and Ras Malai. Both were OK and nothing in taste compared to the dishes I tried before desserts..Overall the food is fresh, good quality and it is served hot by friendly efficient staff. I would definitely recommend visiting the restaurant or ordering in for your fix of good Indian khana

So when we got an invitation for a food review from Memsaab Curry and Tandoor at JLT, Cluster J, we were excited.➡️Memsaab is located at the banks of the lake. It has both outdoor and indoor seating arrangement. We preferred to sit indoors, since it was hot during the day. It has a nice decor and ambience with a high chair at the corners which gives a special feel😃➡️Once we were seated, they brought the welcome drink and the namakpare which were made of spinach & beetroot. Liked this gesture☺️ as mostly all restaurants serve papad.➡️We were served with hara bhara kebab as starters. It was crisp, well prepared served with onion salad and mint chutney. Thoroughly enjoyed and relished on it.➡️In the main course we were served with Vegetable biryani, Paneer Tikka masala, Tava Paneer masala and basket of rotis. Basket consisted of Tandoori roti, butter naan, laccha paratha. Food was good, specially paneer which was very tender and soft. Undoubtedly a top spot for north Indian food in Jlt for both dine in and take away. We first tried them out in health care city and this branch maintains equally good standards in terms of food and has decent seating capacity as well. We tried out mango lassi(5/5), lemonade(4/5), tandoori murgh(5/5), sufiana pulao(4/5), chicken tikka masala(5/5), butter chicken(5/5) and lal maas(4/5). We were already very full so didnt have space for desserts but everything we tasted in starters and main course was fantastic. The look n feel of the place is good, the service was decent and pricing is affordable as well. Overall loved this place and cant wait to return.

Located at ‘J cluster, JLT and As the name says they serve some special curries, tandoors in north-indian & mughlai style.We visited this place for dinner and were warmly welcomed with a refreshing welcome drink jaljeera and colourful fryums with mayonnaise & chutney.Started with some drinks and juices which included jaljeera, lemon mint, lemon soda and mango lassi. The jaljeera was really a refresher and the mango lassi was delicious.Starters we had -Tandoori Jingha : It was amazing. Quite big enough prawns marinated in spices, yoghurt and served along with chutneys. It was too spicy, but tasted very nice even though I was not much used to spicy food.Tandoori mixed noon veg platter : This huge platter of tandoori mixed grill of succulent chicken and mutton kebabs was such a crowd pleaser since it was pocket friendly generous in portion and delicious at the same time.Main course we ordered –Chicken Balti : Boneless chicken pieces cooked in creamy rich, flavourful thick gravy and served in an antique look balti. I recommend to include this dish in your order if you are to visit this place.Malai Kofta: The taste was average as the gravy and the kofta itself was sweet.Mutton Roghan Gosh: Hit of the day i can say. The chaat was amazing and so were the prawns and the mixed non-veg. kebabs, though the prawns were a bit too charred. The kebabs were juicy and delish.Mains were Malai Kofta, Chicken Balti and Mutton Rogan Josh with Bread Basket. Among these three curries that we tried, only Mutton Rogan Josh was good. It was flavourful and appealing. Malai Kofta was extremely sweet and Chicken Balti was just average. After starting off on a good note, the mains disappointed me.Hoping for the best, we ordered Gulab Jamun with and without ice-cream and Ghia Gajar ka Kheer. Gulab jamuns were yumm yummmm…. Soft and hot and delicious with ice-cream and without too!! The kheer was too good too. It was my first time trying ghia in kheer but it tasted nice. They could have added a little more gajar (shredded carrots) too.

Dinner was good: butter chicken, chicken murgh, jeera rice, bread basket & veg salad was exactly enough for 2 adult+kid.Food was very delicious, portion smaller than we usually get in indian places, but it’s not to complain - next time i will order more variety of food.I did not like that they served rice 10 minutes after we got all food on the table.But in general we liked this place very much, interior, ambience, service, food quality was good!

Located in the JLT J Cluster, Memsaab is a fine, simple place if you want to have a decent Indian cuisine, specially North Indian cuisine. The area is well light and colorful, have different seating arrangements, as well as all outdoor area too.We had gone here for dinner last week for dinner, It was decently filled with people enjoying good food and watching the Cricket on their live TV. They welcome us with their drink, Jaljeera, a tradional drink thats given to your guests who visit home or before you start your meals. Shot glasses, tasted good. Next we got the Papdi Chat and paneer tikka, Loved the flavours on both, decent plates to share. Paneer tikka was was delish, loved the spice levels on that.The desserts we got the Gulab jamun, which had two soaked in the sweet syrup and the other dish was Gulab jamun and a scoop of ice creme. Loved the presentation, A decent way to end a fine evening. Service, I would like to mention was fantastic, guys are always smiling and engaging with us, which I really appreciated.

The welcome drink of Jaljeera was cooling after a hot day outside. To start with we tried Memsaab chicken tikka and Lucknowi Mutton kebab, the flavour of both the dishes were very distinct with the perfect balance of spices. The Paneer tikka was so soft and succulent,Coming down to the main we had Bhindi masala, I would highly recommend this one if you are a bhindi lover. Gosht hariyali, the meat was tender to munch with the scrumptious gravy and the taste was yum, went very well with the rotis. Prawn malabar, was one of the best we have had in recent times, prawns in the gravy were soft, succulent & gravy was not too spicy. Mutton Biryani was loaded with flavours. Medium spicy masala, tender mutton pieces & perfectly cooked rice, it had good fragrant and was very flavorful.The food came steaming hot. Presentation of the dishes is basic but the flavours take the experience to the next level. Service is excellent and very quick. Servers are very courteous, special mention of Rohit our main server, he made sure all guests were attended properly and was very efficient in his work.Overall we had a good time. Food is reasonablely priced and is of good taste, this place is a must try! Good job Memsaab !!! Highly recommended!

After Ages I got to eat the best of Indian Mughlai food. The plus point was also the weather today was amazing and they have a beautiful seating outside which is a plus point with a lake view❤Loved their tandoori platter which had Garlic Chiken kebab, Ginger Chicken Kebab & Reshmi Kebab & it was yummylicious and Chicken perfectly cooked 😋Main course I tried butter Chicken, Dal Makhni, Chicken Biryani and Bread Basket..I was having the best Dal Makhni after ages..its a must must try 😋😋 The Biryani was full ful flavours and aromas 😋😋Last but not least the Ghia Kheer and Gulab Jamoon just added the cherry on top of the cake especially the Kheer was like homemadeTOTALLY TOTALLY recommend it..Must try and wont get disappointed..stay tuned for full review on my YouTube ChannelKeep up the good work. The spices in the biryani was each so splendidly cooked and you could relish each and every spice along with the perfectly cooked Basmati rice.Staff was very attentive and very friendly.Place is very spacious and great ambience. There is outdoor seating as well.However the only let down was the exorbitant prices for the quantity being served.

Ordered from here the first time just to enjoy some Indian meals, and I was totally shocked about how delicious the food was, the grilled white chicken and the tandoori chicken were unbelievably tasty. Chicken butter was also good(refer to photos I posted).The parrota (Indian bread) were tasty and light unlike many other Indian restaurants where the parrota is made is too oily. Its definitely one of my favorite restaurants.

My weekends are reserved for dining out and this place came highly recommended by my friends. I tried out their Veg Kabab platter, Tandoori Jhinga , FIsh Ajwain Tikka (super yum!), Karahi Murg Patiala, Roghan Gost and Garlic Butter naan. The Karahi Murg was new to me and I just loved the taste, it was a perfect combo with the garlic naan. The Tandoori Jhinga is a must try, it just has the perfect juicyness and smoky tandoor flavour to it and fingerlicking good. Another hit for me was their JalJeera and salted lassi, both were so refreshing, espcially as you dine al fresco and enjoy the meal with the scenic views.Now lets get to the most awaited partz desi desserts!! Crispy sweet Jelebis, creamy Ras Malai and finally my favourite cheatday combo- Gulab Jamun with Vanilla Ice cream. Such a yum pairing. Its a lovely place to enjoy a leisurely meal with the family over the weekend.

Everything was good and with lots of fresh flavors. In that aloo chaat was the hero, really love the texture,crispy outside and soft inside.heavenly!!⭐️special non veg platter, includes seekh kabab, hara bara, malai chicken and grilled chicken, all the items were super delicious, my favorite was malai chicken.⭐️now comes the main course -butter chicken, mutton lal maas with Garlic Naan. Very buttery and rich creamy butter chicken with crunchy garlic naan was lip smacking good.⭐️finally comes the dessert - crunchy,yummy, freshly made hot jilebi with ice cream was the best after a scrumptious meal.Ras malaiDefinitely going to visit again!!

The food was tasty and the service was very polite. They just were a bit busy so you have to be patient when waiting for your food.

The quality of the food and the service is exceptional. Coming from a family of Chefs, I can very well vouch that they have the best chefs who follow the recipes and not just throw in the same spices for all their dishes. As each one is distinct from the other, including the colour and aroma. We love their Chicken Tikka Biryani and Butter Chicken. As almost every week, we decide to do takeout. Most other Indian speciality restaurants we have dinned in have been disasters in terms of taste and waste of money.Special Reference to Praveen for doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work!

Good place dine... Indian food

Having ordered food to enjoy a good meal, we were appalled to find poor quality across. The biryani was full of essence and it felt that we were eating chemically processed food. Vegetable are significantly oily. Clearly we will never order in future from this outlet.

Great food, friendly staff. Complimentary drink JAAL ZEERA and crackers was a super star. Relaxing ambience. Well recommended.

I liked only starter, other then that food was not good.Dont ever try biryani. Super dislike for biryani.If you want to enjoy the outdoor food then be ready for kitchen smoke which is facing to outside seating.Outside lake view is good.Personally not good experience.

Pathetic food. They are using too much artificial food colour. we ordered special veg and non veg thali. After having non veg food at 6pm my husband was not feeling well and started vomiting at 11pm.The food is certainly not fresh, we got delivery within 30 mins its just reheated food .

AVOID ordering the Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer, Garlic Naan and even the Plain Roti for that matter.The 4.1 rating from 244 reviews is very misleading.

Nice place @ JLT .. out door and indoor seating.Tried vegitarian..had Dum Aloo Kashmiri with tanduri roti. Dum Aloo was a bit tangy and sweet tasted good. Tried the paneer tikka as starter which was very good. Paneer was good. Tried samosa chat (Delhi style), which tasted good and one can connect with Delhi ..The staff interacted politely and was honest..Parking is expensive..

I CAME HERE WITH MY FAMILY AND WE ORDERED ONE KADHAI PANEER, VEG SEEKH KABAB, LACHA PARATHA AND BUTTER NAAN. SPICES WERE PERFECT IN KADHAI PANEER, VEG SEEKH KABAB WAS GOOD TOO. NICE INTERIOR. POLITE STAFF, QUICK SERVICE.

If you are looking for an authentic indian cuisines with a touch of class and modernity, Memsaab is the perfect place for you. The interior is so neat and refreshing. I love the couch area. So relaxing and comfortable. Their staff, Rohit was super accommodating to us. Highly recommend.

Chicken Tikka Masala is the best!

Been having their food since I lived in that same building 7 years ago. Highly recommend their aromatic lamb biryani. They skipped a bit on the meat this time around, hard times for everyone I guess, but all the flavours were there. Chicken tandoori is great too with their crispy garlic Naan. New additions to the menu are some Thai dishes, tried the veg red curry and it was delicious with the biryani.

Food is really good. Though they really need to work on the inside ambience. We visited for lunch here - it was too nosy with TV music & Delivery phone kept on ringing non stop- may be a lower volume would help - to enjoy the food.On the upside- food is value for money.

Oh wow! I’ve been living here for so many years now and just now discovered this amazing restaurant! I can not believe how PERFECT their food was! Oh and those dumplings!!! Wow wow wow wow wow wow! I can’t wait to eat and order from here again!!!!!

Today for Raksha Bhandan dinner we took kids to Memsaab Tandoor and curry located in JLT, cluster J. Parking was easy to find and was easily available. Restaurant was of decent size with lots of seating space outside, we preferred seating inside as weather was hot. Indoor is very well decorated with lights and comfortable sofas. Staff welcomed us and gave us sanitizer to sanitize our hands. The menu was quite elaborate and we told staff that we will prefer veg food. Staff member suggested Paneer tikka or veg platter for starter and we ordered Platter. Ordered mango lassi and it was served in big glass. Veg platter was served with green mint chutney and a small salad and was very tasty. Hot well cooked paneer and kababs set the mood for main course.We ordered only Malai kofta for main course as veg platter was quite filling. Ordered paneer stuffed kulcha and one lacha parantha. Malai kofta had 4 koftas ( veg balls stuffed with paneer) while we generally get 2-3 kofta in other restaurants. Paneer kulcha was very soft and very well cooked. Malai kofta as told by staff was not spicy and my kid could eat it too. We could not try desserts as food was satisfying and was enough. I ordered Adrak ( ginger) tea which they made fresh and served hot. It definitely made my dinner better as I love tea .. kids were happy as they had a nice meal. We noticed they are in Entertainer too so you get BOGO which is a big saving.As they have huge seating place outdoor, I will wait for cooler weather to go there again and try their desserts and tea while enjoying the views outside. Must try food items from today’s meal were veg platter and paneer kulcha. Give it a try for Traditional Indian food.

A no frill eatery in JLT, serving delicious indian cuisine.service was prompt and we enjoyed our luncheon and the pricing was normal.However the air conditioning in this eatery needs to be improved immediately.

Full marks to ambience and staff. The staff was very courteous. The food presentation was average and so was its taste. Had the mutton Biryani and the Tandoori chicken. Maybe not the best representation of the cuisine therefore would go back there and then give another review. The views of JLT from the place were outstanding tough

I visited @memsaabfood couple of days back with a group of friends. Located in JLT, this place serves North Indian and Mughlai cuisine. The ambiance was nice. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I found the service pretty slow, though the staff were friendly and kind. This place has options for both Vegetarians as well as Non Vegetarians.We ordered the below for Starters:1. Dahi Papdi Chaat - This can never go wrong. It was fresh, crispy and yummy2. Tandoori Jingha (Prawns) - I loved the Prawns, it was spicy and served with different sauces.3. Tandoori Mixed Non-Veg Platter - This was a huge platter of mixed grills including chicken and mutton kebabs.Main course: we ordered the below along with the mixed bread platter:1. Chicken Balti - Boneless chicken cooked in creamy, thick curry. it was served a unique style Balti, hence the name of the dish.2. Malai Kofta - This was just okay. i found it a bit sweet.3. Mutton Roghan Gosht - Boneless mutton cooked in mughlai style curry. I recommend this one if you a meat lover.In desserts, we ordered -1. Gulab Jamun with Ice Cream - So this was my first time ever i tried Gulab Jamun with Ice cream and i must say it tasted really good.2. Gulab Jamun - It was soft and had the right amount of sugar. This is my all time favorite.3. Ghia Gajar ki Kheer - This is basically White gourd and carrot pudding. a little different dessert, but i recommend that you try it as well.We had the below Drinks -1. Probably the worst service Ive experience in the UAE.My friend and I ordered a combo each, having a main, 2 roti, salad, yoghurt and papadum. When we were served, we only received the mains and 2 of the 4 roti. After enquiring, it looks like the server had forgotten about the additional sides and only brought 1 serving of yoghurt and salad. We tried to make him understand that we ordered combo and he was not serving what was being offered and later gave up, as even though he was very apologetic, the venture was ultimately useless.After walking past 3 other well established Indian restaurants to reach this one, I can confidently say I will never return to such poor service.

Pretty decent food. Less oily. Well prepared and served hot. Humble and polite waiters. Had mixed veg platter which had fresh paneer Tikka. Soft and delicious. Tasted Paneer Tikka biryani which was not in the menu but was recommended by the staff. Was average in taste. But since it was requested to be less spicy my kid liked it. Got 30% discount via Zomato Gold membership. Baingan bartha was almost well prepared and quantity was really good. Will come back again.

Havent had good tomato soup until tonight at Memsaab. Learned years ago it never hurts to try a different recipe of something you previously have not liked. The tomato soup was a perfect starter for a scrumptious meal. We had chicken vindaloo, butter chicken, chicken tikka kabob, and virani rice. Was a succulent meal served by the extremely courteous staff. If you like authentic Indian, I encourage you to try Memsaab Curry and Tandoor. We will certainly revisit.

We went at Memsaab Curry & Tandoor with some guests. Food was wonderful and best service as well. Though we were late near to closing time and was asked that it will be last ordered. However, they serves all items very well and patiently.Ordered many items and all were very good except lemon soda which was not as per expectations.Would rexommend everyone to try atleast once.

Loved the Indian cuisine, dum aloo, mushroom and daal are a treat.

I recently visited this place for team get together. The restaurant holds some good dishes. However the place is bit small but it is a good place for lunch party for a team of 15 PAX. The overall feedback is Good. The view from the front (JLT Lake view) is nice and perfect for group photos.

Pathetic customer service. Never go to this place unless you are desperatly hungry and can’t find any half decent place. We visited this restaurant once (also the last time) and it took forever to order and get our food. Every employee had a super rude and defensive attitude. Totally avoid this place!
