I travelled around 50kms to try authentic madurai dishes but was disappointed much. First the ambience was so poor and the ac was not working(or the cooling was not much i dont know), the waiter was sweating all over and the restroom was so unhygenic. Second,they didnt have mutton biryani and the answer from the waiter was that they didnt plan mutton biryani for the day. Third, the taste of chicken biryani was very mediocre and jigathanda was like damn what was that. I dont understand why dont we maintain a standard for our native restaurants. People are trying to support but with the standard maintained like this for sure its not good in the longer run. Hope the owner sees this review and act on it.

This is the second time during 2years ..No progress at all...dont even the average food quality...Especially mutton dosa... I spoke to them and came to that this is only a franchise and no one had this food from Madurai before..Now request the so called owner to visit the hotel since he is in India to evaluate...

Madurai Konar is a colourful little South Indian restaurant on the fringe of Karama. Located beside the Ustad Hotel (behind the Emarat petrol station and LuLu’s), its interior is neat, modern-ish and very, very yellow. I gave my car in to the Al Karama Service Station adjacent to the petrol station for a 27 Dirham car wash and came in for my routine Friday morning South Indian breakfast.I have exactly the same thing at every South Indian restaurant, Idli-Vada dip and a Masala Dosa. Why? So I have a reference to compare one against another. And also because I have a weakness for all three. My idli-vada dip arrived in a posh looking thali tray with (surprise, surprise) a spoon and fork as opposed to two spoons. Both were superb; the idli, light and fluffy and the vada, crunchy on the outside and spongy on the inside with little bits of whole spice and ginger which I love. The sambar is one of the best in the business and the chutneys were very good too.My dosa was bigger than the one I recently had at Venus and equally good (that includes the delicious potato masala). Pièce de résistance was their excellent, must have filter coffee – oof, oof, oof!Throughout my breakfast feast I was looked after by a kind natured young waiter whose positivity and ear-to-ear smile were infectious (see picture). I could not have asked for a better way to start my weekend – thank you Smiley.One is spoilt for choice of South Indian in Karama. If and when you are fed up of heavyweights like Sangeetha and Venus and Saravanaa Bhavan and Shri Krishna Bhavan and…(the list is long), spare a thought for this little yellow gem. Nice clean restaurant, food was served in hygenic manner. The staff was polite and have good understanding of the menu.

So we ordered for their special non veg meals, brain roast and mutton biryani.1. Non veg meals was quite nice, spicy but filling. Not a variety of sides but doable.2. The mutton biryani was tasty, good quantity but we had to request for mutton as we couldnt really find any.3. The brain roast was a mistake. The portion wasnt even fit for a child and we were charged 16dhs. There was more egg than brain in the dish! Not worth itWouldnt really recommend the restaurant but if you would like to order for a biryani then that should be all.Oh and the kitchen is on the first floor so the poor waiters keep running up and down which is sad.Apart from that it was an ok experience on a Friday afternoon! 🙂

It’s really sad that the MKR doesn’t capitalize on its menu or authentic taste or location or signature service. Felt like the brota was cooked in stale oil, service is the slowest I have seen in Karama for the menu. The food is very economical but I can say for sure that many of the customers who were dining that particular were first timers. Wish they really improve to stay as a landmark for Madurai food.

Madurai konar is the best family restaurant ever seen in karama with delicious foods and make feel more comfortable and affordable prices also.I like more south indian breakfasts,konar meals , non- veg dry items etc. After finish the heavy food, suggested to take a madurai special nannari sarbath....its a beautiful experience for us.Now a days, I heard started the evening so with indian snacks and non veg rolls. But, I taste a black tea with combination of ginger,mint,and lemon..its simply good...Hope, looking forward and have a great years ahead...My best wishes to them....

The success of any restaurant is to keep up the quality . Recently i have visited for lunch at 12.45 in the noon . Im the only customer at this point of time , ordered so called superior Thali .. Though it took time my expectation was the food ie being prepared ... The it was served i realized most of the dishes were on room temperature . There were 2 waiters , one cashier & another gentle man who was simply walking between the cash counter & the main door . I politely asked him why the food is not hot ...to my surprise a very rude answer came saying NO PROBLEM we will re-heat and give . And he ordered the waiter to take the food back .Apparently the food was thrown back to the Micro wave oven and served very very hot again ...look at the quality of the food & attitude of your staff i decided to just wash my hands and leave . None bothered to ask why Im leaving . Just paid and left .... EXCELLENT SERVICE MADURAI KONAR RESTAURANT .... THANKS. -- A SMALL SUGGESTION TO THE OWNERS - Pls do visit other restaurants in Karama area and learn from their services.
