Its a medium sized dam, in terms of UAE. Nice setting for some good pictures. There is a hiking trail that starts behind the dam through the Northern side of Jebel Jais mountains. Right now during SEP-NOV period the reservoir is completely dry and one can even drive around in the sand bed. After the rains fill up da dam, the scenery becomes much better.
Best hikes in UAE. Gorgeous landscapes.
Wadi Galilah is a wonderful place in Ras al Khaimah...calm and peace place to visit in this pandemic situation
It is for confirmed hikers as the first 6km going up are all at approx. 200m of elevation gain per km. So nice, but you need to be fit!
Way to the mountain hiking.
A CLEAN AIR NOT LIKE ANYWHERE ELSE.
Spectacular views and a real sense of accomplishment for those who manage to make the 3+ hour hike up to the top!
If I want to do this in reverse, where should I park on top?
This trail takes you to Jebel Jais. Only about 2000feet/420meter up (maybe 1.4miles/2.3km of trail hiking) you get to a nice vista by all the rock-cabin structures. The full hike to the top of the mountain is 4.6 miles / 7.5 km and 5,100ft / 1600meter elevation gain.
