Very traditional Ethiopian restaurant in the heart of Old Dubai. The food is delicious and made fresh on the spot. You can choose between veggie or non veggie served on home made injera. The coffee pot at the end of the dinner reminded me the traditional coffee ceremony I had the opportunity to enjoy in Ethiopia.
An Ethiopian friend said Zagol is like a typical eatery place youd find in Ethiopia. Its small (only 5 seating areas), but cozy and friendly atmosphere was inviting, and the food was delicious! We shared a Telek erat b mesob, a big plate filled with a bit of everything, from sauted vegetables to different meat dishes and sauces. We also added the dry tibe, beef cubes served in a sizzling pot and the special tibe, another beef dish with more gravy. The food has a rich flavor with lots of spices and the eating experience using our hand was something else. Their traditional bread had a sour taste and soft texture which was a bit unusual. We also had their dessert and coffee. The staff were very friendly, quick in serving us. The price is really cheap - our bill for all that food, drinks and desserts were not even 350 dirhams. Worth to note they take only cash. Highly recommended if youd like to try an authentic Ethiopian dining experience!
This is THE restaurant in Dubai for authentic Ethiopian food (which has been confirmed by Ethiopians no less). The staff are very friendly and the prices are very good. They have a small restaurant where the food is prepared and cooked, or the slightly bigger restaurant next door. I always leave feeling very satisfied.
Absolutely delightful experience of Ethiopian cuisine. Zagol is a small restaurant with only five tables seating up to 4/5 guests, but you can feel the love and dedication the moment you enter this colourful little culinary gem. I didnt ask, but there is this family restaurant kind of vibe - the staff greets you with a warm smile and you can see the busy kitchen through a large glass window behind the counter. The menu seems straight forward, but without any previous experience, just opt for Zagol Special and ask for recommendations on additional items. The pancake the individual food piles are presented on has a slightly sour taste, but if your taste buds are open to new impressions, its not unpleasant. Vegetables and meat are well-cooked, the green side salad is spicy and creates a perfect refreshing balance. We didnt try any deserts this time (the main is just too filling), and were also coming back to check out Zagol Cafe, two shops down the road.
My parents were in Ethiopia before i born, so i grown with my parents praises about Ethiopian foods, especially Injera and Doro wet, Tibes. So I tried my first Tim experience of same dishes in this restaurant and heres the pros and consPros*Tibes (AED 45) was delicious, its Beef dry fry (no/less seasoning) suited with tomatoes and onions.*Ambience is ok, felt a cultural blend especially the tables and seating arrangement.*Felt like all employees are from Ethiopia only, so felt more authentic.* Even though communications in English were little difficult with employees, still felt fair service.*Tables and seats were cleaned and kept neatCons*Injera (complementary a dish like wheat dosa made from wheat from Ethiopia) didnt met my expectations, it felt little more sourness, but when i dipped in Doro wat (Chicken curry in thick gravy with Boiled Egg) it felt less sourness but still below expectations (its still first time, may be my imaginations only😜😋)*Flies were coming from outside felt annoyed*Small sitting arrangements at a time maximum 8 only can sit with little bit comfortable, but with covid restrictions it should be maximum of 4,but didnt felt they were following sitting protocols, even if they had it will definitely affect their own living hood, so i didnt felt to be offended.*No restrooms*No dedicated parking spaces.*No credit cards and paper bill with cash transactions.
Definitely one of the best restaurants in town. My favourite one in the world (have been in more than 50 countries) I can say this after 4 years living in Dubai. What best description for an Ethiopian restaurant to say that is always with a lot of ethiopian there. Have been to two other ethiopian restaurants in Dubai, and they dont have as many locals as Zagol. Their prices are fair. The atmosphere is super Ethiopian. The tastes are amazing. Their fresh juices are real fresh juices(if you like mango, dont miss it). They have great VEGETERIAN options. Its a cozy place where there is space for 4/5 tables for a maximum of 4 people per table, its very intimate. The waiters and waitresses are super kind and they are wearing their national dresses. Their food is delicious. They play ethiopian music. My recommendation if you are vegeterian or you are into veggies and it is your first time to try their meal for 3/4(the one of the picture) that you can try a variety of different dishes.I hope you can enjoy as much as I do from this place!
Excellent food and great service. It was a very wholesome and healthy meal and one meal had the four of us so full and content for the rest of the afternoon! The restaurant is in a busy block, which had plenty of restaurants, and is a small place, so its possible to miss the restaurant unless you are watchful. Parking is usually available in the street.. highly recommended. Do visit.
The meals look pricey on the face of it, but the portions are large and we could feed 5 persons out of a 162 DHS total cost. Very tasty as well!Only stags that they dont accept card payments so pls come with cash! Best Ethiopian Ive had so far!
Great variety and excellent food. Have tried food from them and it has mostly met the expectations. However, they have a hard time getting food prepared on time for takeout/takeaway even if you call well ahead in advance. The last 3 times I called in for takeout, they were late by 15-45 minutes; in one case, I stopped by in-person and told them I will pick up the food after 30 minutes and it wasn’t ready after 50 minutes. Another time, I placed an order and showed up and they still needed 15-20 minutes. They really need to improve their commitment for getting takeout orders ready on time.
Wow! So happy with the meal and experience. My friends and I shared a vegan bayaneta. Three of us are vegan, and we like to search for vegan spots. This place was a perfect meal. The food was delicious! It had tons of flavor, and super reasonable pricing. The plate had lentils, beans, salad, beets, etc. We also had the Ethiopian coffee, which came with popcorn. It was nice coffee. The service was good too. You can tell that food was prepared fresh, and cooked to order. I will definitely be back in the near future. Happy customer.
Loved everything, the place is small, had to eat in my car but food was delicious,.sorry couldnt get pics as I was so hungry forgot to get them, next time will upload some.nice pics
Best Ethiopian food. Great friendly staff, affordable price and great ambiance
I never write reviews... but I definitely have to now.Not only will you get the most delicious food (tried the Zagol special and Ethiopian coffee) ... the staff and the overall atmosphere is an absolute delight.Looks like I’ve found my new favourite spot in Dubai
Good Restaurant for one who loves home cooked Ethiopian food. The ambiance of the restaurant is very good and in Ethiopian style. In this tiny restaurant you will get delicious and super authentic Ethiopian food served on the traditional Injera bread (For Ethiopians, Injera is like Chappathi for Indians & Kuboos for Arabs 😝).The menu has description for every item and it explains what is in each dish and we can select what we like. We can take recommendations from the beautiful ladies who serves food and they are very happy to explain each item which suits us.Most of the customers are Ethiopians and that itself shows the quality of food.Public muncipality parking available in front of the restaurant.Better to visit on weekdays as the restaurant have space only for 4 to 5 tables.
An Ethiopian Food joint. Out of curiosity to try something different dropped in and to be true was not at all disappointed. The food offered was very different from what an South Asian can expect. For a change and to know ethnic varieties one must make a visit to such joints. Liked the food, but not sure about a revisit. But would recommend everyone to try at least once.
Very good food we had the special tibs and kitfo, nice interiors, amazing staff, cozy , but the place is a bit small,Also machiato is on point
One of the best Ethio food I’ve ever eaten, great service as well.
Food is sublime. Ethiopians will come to Dubai to try it. The place is small and you might have to wait for a seat. Well worth it.
1st time at an Ethiopian restaurant and the experience was great. The ambiance takes you back to Ethiopia. Friendly and smiling staff. And not the forget the Zagol special giving you the authentic taste of pure Ethiopian food. Right from veggies to meat to eggs. And the bread. No complaints just happy and smiling face at the end of the meal. And yes the Cinnamon tea was simply relieving.
Delicious Ethiopian food with great service! Enjoyed the coffee too!
Not the most photogenic cuisine ever but I tried Ethiopian food for the first time and it turned out to be nice and full of goodness chickpeas, lentils, beans, spinach, spicy potatoes and ---------- injera which is their dosa like bread which was ok --------. Its actually a spread thali. The convenience of eating having everything in one bigggg plate was tastefully osummmm. The taste was typical indian masala powedered into african namesake. Its just like a bengal tiger visiting the african wildlife..
Always a treat having a meal here! Such pleasant customer service with EVERYONE always smiling.. nice set up goood! !feels soo local.. goood food. Pocket friendly pricing .. Must visit if you are looking for an experience of a kind!!
Very tasty, fresh and authentic Ethiopian food! I just had doro wat and chiro for lunch, the taste of both dishes were on spot, very tasty!
This was our first time trying Ethiopian food and it certainly wont be our last. We ordered the vegetarian injera, which was originally for three people but they could also make it for two. It was absolutely delicious 🤤 still couldnt finish it so we took the rest home. Great introduction to the cuisine of Ethiopia and I know already that I want the one of their shiro dishes next!
Beautiful traditional layout and ambience. Chilled out and clean place. Amazing and delicious meal with a touch of homemade recipes. Service was perfect.
Probably the only place you can get Ethiopian food in Dubai. Really good food and service. Place is pretty tiny though so not meant for groups larger than 5 people.
We had a great experience with the Zagol restaurant in the Al Murar area,so we thought next time we would go to the Zagol restaurant in the Karama area for a change of scenery but experience the same ethiopian cuisine experience. We tried the Zagol Special and it was delicious and truly filling. We definitely enjoyed the meal and the little atmosphere at the restaurant. The color scheme and the interior decoration is truly homely and comfortable for any visitor. The food is great as well as the staff in general. My only hangup with Zagol restaurant in Karama is , one of the male staff who handed over the billobill us a little a bit as it we were aware of the menu list in the Zagol restaurants in Al Murar and Karama. But, we just decided to let it pass and hopefully next time , we wont get overcharged again. The restaurant is on Somata , so if you got the Zomato Pro app, make use of itOverall, the food is delicious and their coffee is delightful.
Delicious huge pancakes with various fillings that we ate with our hands. So yummy and different. The best coffee ever.
The best place for me to eat Ethiopian food
Best kitfo place in Dubai
Havent had such fresh unprocessed food in a long time. I really enjoyed it!! Restaurant was clean and service was great. They have a delicious vegan options. I just wish the restaurant was in a better area!
Amazing Ethiopian traditional food and coffee ❤️.
One of my favourite places hidden gem ... bring cash
Excellent food and service!
Amazing food. Tastes homemade with a nice vibe and service. The only thing better than the food is their coffee which you should never miss out on.
Good food, tastes like home
A gem in Dubai, amazing food and really authentic, super kind staff, an experience not to be missed

The food is succulent and the staff is nice. Good place to enjoy authentic Ethiopian food.
CASH ONLYA small restaurant serving Ethiopian food. I’m not familiar with Ethiopian food so I always end up ordering the same dishes but it’s a good mixture of vegetables and meats cooked in different sauces. They also have an Ethiopian coffee shop across the street
Best Ethiopia meal to try in Town. Very tasty even though the space is tiny. Thank you for the hospitality and yummy Ethiopian food.
I can’t say that I’ve tried Ethiopian food before but as the first Ethiopian restaurant I’ve been to, the food was absolutely excellent and saying the coffee was good is an understatement.
Authentic ethiopian food
I love the food, test always same, small pace for sitting thought so traditional and cozy. I wish the price were reasonable, even one signle person has to pay minimum 40 to 50 dirhams to have lunch.
Great authentic Ethiopian food! Its a very small place that fits 4 tables only. Gets busy in fridays and Saturdays afternoons. Parking is an issue in that area. Best time to visit to get a table and a parking spot in on early Saturday afternoons.
Excellent Ethiopian food in a modern Ethi-locale
Beautiful, cozy place and yummie food.
Great food. Great service. Genuine experience.
Totally authentic Ethiopian food - tastes great! The Karama outlet is small but inviting and the decor though minimalist, is tasteful. The staff are friendly and always smiling. Pricing is reasonable and the menu can be viewed on Zomato. Have been there 3 times and enjoyed it. Try their coffee as well - it is very good.
Good Ethiopian food, awesome coffee
Home cooked Ethiopian cuisine served by the lovely ladies at Zagol Restaurant, been going here for the last 8 years and it has maintained its consistency. Amazing array of vegetarian and meat options but our go to order is the Zagol special which is an assortment of a range of dishes and we pair this with the Dry tibs, succulent pieces of beef fried on a clay pot along with chillies, onion and tomato. I would also highly recommend ordering a fresh pot of Ethiopian coffee that is pan roasted in house which will served with warm freshly made pop corn.
Cozy atmosphere, 5* customer service, rich Ethiopian culture complimented by the decor and family friendly. Keep up the amazing work. Proudly African.
This was an amazing experience!! The decor is so authentic and the food is incredible. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Small place but definitely worth the wait (if you have one). This is some of the best Ethiopian food Ive had.
Nice authentic food with perfect tradition Ethiopian ambiance with a friendly smile
Been there 5 times and they are keeping the food standard very consistently. I really enjoyed the foods with my friends here. Highly recommended.
Amazing Ethiopian food. Try Dorawat chicken.
Small place. But good tasty spicy food. Vegan. Freshly prepared. Came out hot. And in 10mins.
A small yet cozy place. Delicious food coupled wid friendly staff & traditional ambience. Ideal for families & friends looking for get-together over good food.
The best authentic Ethiopian dishes you can find. Absolutely amazing, very delicious and affordable, value for money. Love the traditional decor.
Extremely good Ethiopian food - the vegetarian platter for 3 contains all veg dishes and its really full of flavor. Really good ingera.
What a great little visit to Ethiopia in Dubai. Wonderful presentation delivered with warm Ethiopian hospitality. Great options for vegan and vegetarians
