I did an initial session with Sonika, the genetic counselor and I must admit it was quite an amazing discussion. This is the future of medicine, happening today! She explained the fairly complex subject of genetics, using an easily understood metaphor of the manual of life (genomes), chapter (chromosomes), the lines (genes) and then the language of each line. Quite fascinating. And then of course the fact that the genes are not linearly related to a particular human attribute. There is a complicated network of connections underpinning each facet of human. We also discussed how evolutionary theory and the concept of survival of the fittest is being played out each day at the genetic level.I believe the field of genomics and AI are the two profound, disruptive forces of the digital era we live in. Whilst we need to pursue these with vigor, both also need a robust ethical framework so that when we look back, humanity has changed for the better (as opposed to for the worse) leveraging these disruptive forces.Thank you Sonika for the simple 101 crash course you provided me through this session and I look forward to receiving my results.

I could not recommend Sonika highly enough - a true professional. I went to see Sonika as part of my full medical assessment with Valiant but also on the back of my mum being diagnosed with cancer. Sonika sat down with me and went through my family history of illness and explained everything fully for someone with no medical knowledge to easily understand whilst at the same time being very sympathetic and conscious of the emotions of such a new diagnosis within the family.We will definitely be making an appointment for genetic testing on the back of such an informative initial consultation.
